Bangkok’s famous “Green Mile” is finally fully open again. After months of renovations and closures, the elevated walkway reopened in May 2026 with a fresh new look.

The full 1.6-kilometre route now connects Lumphini Park and Benjakitti Park without interruptions. Crews finished the structural upgrades and installed modern features. However, the greenery still needs time to grow in. Some sections already have plants and vertical gardens, while others still look bare.
A Smoother Walk Across Bangkok
The new Green Mile creates a safe, car-free route through central Bangkok. The old concrete paths and steep stairs are gone. In their place, visitors now find wide, colourful walkways designed for walking, running, and cycling.
The city also improved accessibility. Long ramps and elevators now make the entire route easier for wheelchairs, strollers, cyclists, and older visitors. People can now move between the parks comfortably without climbing difficult staircases.
The walkway also connects key parts of the city, including Witthayu, Sarasin, and Ratchadaphisek.

Better for Exercise and Daily Use
The upgraded surface feels softer underfoot and provides better grip for runners. Separate lanes also help cyclists and pedestrians move more smoothly without blocking each other.
Workers installed bright LED lighting and CCTV cameras along the route. These upgrades make the walkway feel much safer during early mornings and evenings.
Whether you want a quiet walk, a run after work, or an easier daily commute, the new Green Mile makes the journey far more enjoyable.
The Greenery Is Still Catching Up
Although the bridge has reopened, the landscaping still needs time to mature. Large trees and vertical gardens will continue to appear over the coming months. Once finished, they should provide more shade and create the lush “green tunnel” many people expect.
The city also cleaned and upgraded several areas beneath the bridge. Spaces near Polo and Ruamrudee no longer feel dark or neglected. Instead, they now serve as open public areas for community activities and small local businesses.

Tips Before You Visit
The Green Mile currently opens daily from 6 AM to 6 PM. Officials may extend the hours later once they finish testing the lighting system.
Visitors can enter from Lumphini Park Gate 5 or from the Benjakitti forest park extension.
Right now, the walkway still lacks shade in many sections. Bring water, sunscreen, and maybe a hat if you plan to visit during the middle of the day. Bangkok heat shows no mercy.
If you start at Lumphini Park, check out the new hawker centre near Gate 5. It’s a great place to grab food or a cold drink before heading home.
